It’s not my usual kind of subject matter, but sometimes being forced out of one’s comfort zone is all the motivation needed. “Nectar”will be on show with “Putrefying Venus” at the Gabinetto Segreto- International erotic show, July 29th at The Vanderelli Room in Ohio.
Speaking of comfort zones, it was hotter than a vindaloo curry on Hades last week, 109 degrees in the studio shade, and my brain boiled like albumen in its shell. Which is as well because whilst literal hell encroaches, it’s been a fever pitch in my sketchbooks, and I’m hungry to break in the new sprawling canvases for Paradiso’s Fall, if only to share what I’ve been up to. It struck my wife-Lani, that it’s something of a wasted opportunity, sequestrating perfectly good scrawls away, when I could be selling the ones that never make the cut. So, to that end, I’ve decided to make my renderings more easily available under the banner of ‘Draw Cuts’. Scrawled in biro-they’ll be spontaneous, raw, rough and readily affordable at around $50 a pop. If they do the business I’ll make it a regular thing and allot a section on my website for the ones that don’t get picked up immediately on social media. Here’s a short time lapse video of the first piece, prompted from the words “Clown Show”
The Heavy Metal 40th Anniversary opens in a few days, and for shits and giggles, I’ve put my former years squandered as a madman in design agencies to good use, and knocked together a mock up vintage style cover, using my painting “George and the Dragon.” It’s probably as close as I’ll ever get to being on the cover of the real thing, but I promise not to hang it in the lobby of my golf resort.
