Lisa Derrick Fine Arts
Goddesses and Gods
A Group Exhibition

Conceived and curated by Lisa Derrick, “Goddesses & Gods” explores concepts of apoptosis, apotheosis and auto-theogony through a range of artists drawn primarily from the Los Angeles area. Works embrace both classical and modern techniques; themes pull deities, traditional and self-created, from sacred texts, folk traditions, and artistic gnosis while eschewing rigid fundamentalism in both inspiration and execution. Goddesses & Gods runs through July 20th.

With a background seeped in folklore and mythology, as well as Western religious and esoteric history, gallerist Lisa Derrick curates an expansive array of artists from Los Angeles, with Las Vegas, Ireland and Mexico also represented.

“Following directly on from his previous series (Purgatorium), “Paradiso’s Fall” utilizes elements from Milton’s classic, and the corruption of Eden as a mythological set piece for his own autumn of years, the fall of man, and the prevailing dark age we live in.
Through a series of paintings that are ill omens to the end times, the work is a meditation on mans appetite for self destruction, against the dichotomy of the ‘artist’s’ creative predisposition to deconstruct.”

La Bodega Gallery presents
A Group Exhibition Co-Curated by David Van Gough

From Hieronymus Bosch to Zdzislaw Beksinski, artists throughout history, have explored the darker side of the imagination. Drawing from the monstrous excesses of the periods they created in, or speaking to the inner turmoils of the psyche, darkness in art has been a potent, visual language, which expresses the deeper recesses of the soul.

In the month that is the festival of Samhain, Tales from the Darkside will be a showcase that is both a manifestation of the shadow side of art, and a representation of the best contemporary dark artists working today.
